Founded in Spain, Atlantic Copper is the country’s largest copper producer, with production facilities in Huelva and headquarters in Madrid. The company is a key supplier of essential metals for sustainable development, providing copper, gold, silver, platinum, palladium, and nickel, along with products such as sulfuric acid and iron silicate. Its commitment to sustainability and the circular economy is demonstrated through innovative projects, such as the CirCular Project, which promotes the recycling of non-ferrous metals to support the energy transition and sustainable mobility. With over 2,500 direct, indirect, and related jobs, and business relationships with more than 650 suppliers in Andalusia, Atlantic Copper drives sustainable and responsible growth.
The challenge
Atlantic Copper manages around 60 indirect workers from multiple companies, each with separate contracts and additional resources, such as vehicles and machinery. This represents a considerable documentation workload for the risk prevention team, as each contractor must meet specific legal requirements. As Juan Antonio Pino Urreta, Prevention Technician at Atlantic Copper, explains, “you can imagine the volume of documentation work our prevention service required to try to manage this documentation.”
The contractor management digitalization project
To tackle this challenge, Atlantic Copper decided to digitize contractor control in 2014 through Achilles Controlar. Since its implementation, document verification has been centralized and automated, ensuring that each subcontracted worker and equipment meets legal and safety requirements before accessing the facilities. This automated validation process enables effective, real-time control of the status and validity of documentation, ensuring compliance with regulations and significantly reducing the administrative burden on the risk prevention team. As Juan Antonio Pino details, “without the help of Achilles, we could not carry out an effective and real control to ensure that the legally required documentation for workers is up-to-date and meets validation criteria,” highlighting the importance of Achilles in efficiently and safely coordinating business activities.
At Achilles, we are proud to support Atlantic Copper, a company committed to sustainability and the circular economy, driving responsible development and contributing to a safer and more efficient future for all.
